Mothering

How to mother? With patience and, in my case, with lessons from a legacy of gardening.

My mom nurtured us kids and her garden. Because of her example, I was never afraid to become a mother and knew instinctively how to plant and weed and move things to a better location. (You moms out there get that reference I’m sure.)

My grandmother was the earlier version of my gardening mother. Her palest of pink roses grace my garden every May. Planted in my grandmother’s front yard, these once-a-season bloomers appeared in time for my mom to pick them as her bridal bouquet.

Happy Mother’s Day to those who nurture. I am thankful for two who made me one.
